Sustainability
We strive to make our business more sustainable by considering the sustainability aspects of our most important business decisions.

The impact of our business on the environment predominantly comes from the activities we subcontract to our suppliers, including the printing, production, distribution, recycling, and disposal of printed books. To reduce our impact, we adopt the following practices:

  • Use of sustainable paper: most books are printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) paper supplies, or, for domestic US printing, we use Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) paper. We estimate 80% of books are printed on sustainable paper.
  • Increasing sustainable operations: we continue to consolidate shipments wherever possible so that the number of journeys made is minimized.
  • Ethical production: we continue to work with our suppliers to adopt ethical standards of manufacture using ICTI Care processes.

In addition to these efforts, and with the goal of being a leader of industry change, we relaunched our Ivy Kids imprint in 2021 to be fully sustainable. Telling hopeful, joyful stories about nature and the environment in fiction and fostering a deeper connection with the living world through nonfiction, all Ivy Kids titles are printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper, locally to where they will be sold. Our ultimate aim is to reach a net zero impact on the planet.
